What are the most successful small businesses?
I assume by “successful” you mean profitable?
“Most people think that money will make them happy, but in reality it’s a happy life that makes you more money.” – Jim Fortin
So what will make you the most profitable and successful? Doing what you love! And this is only limited by your imagination. (And don’t you DARE start saying “but no one would want that”).
Seriously! Here are 8 examples of online businesses that make more than 6- or 7- figures each year:
- Smart Passive Income – Pat Flynn makes over 6-figures a month doing what he loves.
- Coach Glitter – Tiffany is a professional makeup artist who now helps other makeup artists.
- Tyler J. McCall – Teaches business owners how to grow their influence on Instagram (specifically Instagram stories) and is very successful.
- Cosmic Kids – Teaching yoga to children and making it fun while running a successful business.
- Learning Herbs – Personally I LOVE this one, but I am into the herbal healing and remedies, so go figure. And the kids game? Yeah! We have that.
- Talk Box – Helping parents teach their kids a second language from home. Together, as a family. Boom!
- Jody Moore – A life coach for members of 1 specific Christian denomination. Seriously, you can’t niche down too far here guys.
- Spiritual Mechanic – Don’t tell Erin-Ashley you can’t make money as an empath or in the spiritual & faith world because she’ll tell you otherwise!
But what if you don’t know what you love? What if I don’t know what what I want? Now that is a different question all together. And one that I struggled with for a long time.

How do I decide what business to start?
First, let’s point out that you said “DECIDE” – to decide means “to cut off all other options.” So you will pick ONLY 1 (for now) and FOCUS on it – do not make the same mistake I did and try a billion different ways instead of focusing on just 1.
Secondly, because the possibilities are only limited by your imagination, so STOP telling yourself you don’t know what you love, don’t know what you want to be known for, or don’t know what you want.
So how DO you figure it out and identify what you love and what business to start?
PLEASE do not just start with a website – unless you are blogging, you DO NOT need a website before you make money.
DO lean into discovery around who you are. Figure out what your skills and strengths and passions are. NO ONE else can tell you – you have to accept the fact that you are wonderful and talented and have something incredible to give. No one else can do it for you!
For personality, the first step I recommend is the Myers-Briggs personality test to give you a glimpse.
(Warning: I do not stand by personality tests because I don’t believe it’s possible to group the 8 Billion people on this planet into only 16 groups. However, this is a good place to start in a culture where understanding who you are is considered “selfish”.)
For a closer look at the MBTI (Myers-Briggs test), my mentor James Wedmore has a helpful download that talks about all 4 types of entrepreneurs mentioned today.
What is the best business for beginners?
The one that you start! Wherever you feel called to go.
Amy Porterfield worked for Tony Robbins for years and now runs a VERY successful online business teaching people how to build online courses.
Tyler J. McCall, who we talked about earlier, started as a social media manager for business owners and then decided to do his own thing.
Manifestation Babe started as a fitness coach for Beachbody.
Just get started and you’ll learn the lessons you need to grow the business of your dreams.
So the best business for beginners is whatever gets you started. 🙂 Whether it’s working for someone else or starting your own.
What business I can do from home?
Any online business.
As long as you have an internet connection and a computer you can do anything we have talked about today.
You could be:
- an affiliate/sales rep
- a blogger,
- an Instagram influencer,
- teach a language online (I worked with VIPKID for a while; iTalki is another option)
- work on YouTube (like the BucketList Family)
What business can you do from home?
Whatever you want – just get started!
Trust that you will figure it out and you will learn and grow.
Believe that what you dream of is possible for you.
